Hi everyone: I am working with a 286/16 Mhz computer, which has AMI BIOS installed ( current '91). I've just recently installed a MULTI I/O card with parallel, game, and 2 serial ports (second chipset installed). I was careful to follow the tiny piece of paper that came with it that told me the correct settings of the addresses and interrupts (IRQ). My settings for the ports are LPT1, COM1, COM2. I've tested the board and all ports perform with no problems. My problem (if it is a problem?) when the system boots, the AMI BIOS chart tells me there are COM PORTS at (3f8, 2f8, 3e8, 2e8). Now, I know there is only one board in the system installed so why is AMI BIOS telling me otherwise? If I try to run diagnostics on these ports I get errors (maybe because they do not exist? ha, ha). Also there are three LPT ports present in the chart LPT1, LPT2 LPT3. These setting for the printer ports remain wether the board is now installed or removed. Can anyone tell me if this is a falt with the AMI BIOS, the MULTI I/O board, me? Also in the CMOS setup I can setup hard drive types, memory, video, but not the COM PORTS. Is there a way to reset the AMI settings in the boot up chart. I've attempted to remove the board but the setting for the printer ports of LPT1, LPT2, LPT3 are all still there. And once the board is installed the 4 COM PORTS come back up in the chart. Thanks in advance to all, Frank Pikelner Technical Assistent York University, Toronto, Cnd frank@cs.yorku.ca
