Hi,
I have posted a similar mail on this issue some time ago but had no
response, so please if there is any pointers, let me know. I am getting
desperate and my warranty has expired!
Here is the problem in brief, my 386-20 MHz machine will blank out from
time to time and display a messgae in CGA mode :
Parity error ????
System Halted
There is nothing I could do other than reboot. I realised that when this happen
and I move my mouse - a Logitech 9 - I will see some colour pattern change but
thats about it. I was trying to trap the triggering condition but could not
find it. All I felt was that it got worst on a hotter day! I ran checkit and
it gave memory parity error on one of the simms location, I moved them around
but the error was at the same location. It also gave a faulty DMA controller
error! Here are the system specs:
386-20 Intel CPU
2 Meg RAM Simms 80 ns
Shadow Ram and 0 WS
Ami Bios 1989
C&T Chipset.
Is there anything I could do to find the cause of this problem. I suspect
something is wrong on the system board where the simm slots in but it the
ram check out fine everytime I boot the machine! I am really frustrated coz
I keep losing a lot of work - I am writing up my PhD thesis which is due
in Sept. Please if there is any pointers, I will greatly appreciate any help.
If I am not mistaken I saw a similar posting some time back. If you are reading
this please I would like very much to hear from you.
Thanks anyway.
