[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] What is the best sound card on ISA or MCA ?

Angus.Fox@UK.Sun.COM (Angus Fox) (05/24/91)

I have finally found a game on my PC & PS/2 that is good enough to warrant
investmentin a sound card. (Wing Commander - buy it). I have a plethora of computers including regular architecture, Toshiba Laptop and Micro Channel
Architecture. So the architecture of the card is unimportant.

So what I want to determine is:

The best card with the best support in available software (esp Wing
Commander) and the best support BBS (for European users), with the best
capability of coexisting with all my other cards (Network, Tecmar Tape VGA
but soon 8514/A or XGA) and the best support for fast 386/33 and 486 computers, and a no stupid questions upgrade policy when their card is obsoleted by the manufacturers own technology. If that is a PC card
fine - if it is a PS/2 card fine.

What I don't wnat is two months from now to hear:

Oh - no it doesn't do x - you needed the other architecture / other brand.

If this is an oft repeated topic then please send me summaries of older
articles.I will summarise if there is merit. If you have manufacturers
contact details please let me know.

thanks
