[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] What computer should I get ???

Hi,
    I am really confused as to what computer I should purchase. 
I was intending to get a 386DX/33.  I have recently been advised 
to consider the 486 (486sx ?? or 486 dx??).  Someone else said I should
get a 286.
I am a second year computer systems engineer and will no doubt have 
a lot of applications for what ever system I decide on.
I would really appreciate any advice on which type of computer to 
purchase, what brand, how much ram, clock speed, etc.,  and any advice 
in general as to what to look for and watch out for.  Please respond to

PS As you have probably gathered , I know relatively little about
