[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] WYSE PC compatibility problem?

rujo@ulrik.uio.no (Rune J|rgensen) (05/29/91)

When I run a certain program on a WYSE 3216-10 with a
WYSE VGA card, I get the following message:

  Exception #13 at 5A6E:2A56
  Err. code: 0000
Do you want to T)erminate the program, R)eboot, or try to C)continue?

Now, you may blame the software, but the program runs fine on over 100
different types of 8086, 80286, 80386 and 80486 PCs with any type
of VGA-card.

Therefore I suspect some kind of low level incompatibility with the
WYSE PC. It might be a program error, but whatever triggers it I
suspect it to be a WYSE compatibility problem.

I have talked with the WYSE guys (!), and of course, their PC is as
compatible as a PC can be. Is there anyone in Netland that knows
something that the WYSE guys will not tell me?

Here are the details:

PC: WYSE MY 3216-10 Math CO-PRO installed.
Memory report: 640 Conv., 1408 extended
DOS: 3.30
BIOS: Phoenix 3.53

When I get the message (halts at the same place when QEMM is not loaded (but without message).

All suspect lines in CONFIG.SYS / AUTOEXEC.BAT are removed. No change.

The VGA card is a WYSE card, but other VGA cards produce the same
result.

All cards in the slots (CPU-card etc) in the PC has been replaced
one by one, no change. No special cards in the slots, only an extra
serial/paralell card.

Different versions of the program have been run, but all versions
halt at the same place with the same symptoms.

The program uses the math CO-PRO. The program does use the
grapics mode of the VGA card, but the program is in text
mode when it stops.

Any suggestions would be most welcome!
