Hi I'm seriously thinking about purchasing an HP LJ IIIp and the Pacific Page XL from Pacific Data Products. The combo looks to come out easily under $2000. PC Mag had reviews on both the LJ IIIp and PP XL in recent issues, and the results were impresive. Big features to me were the ability to switch between PCL5 and PostScript without turning off the printer & removing the cartidge, and speed. The PP XL is a combo of Postscript cartridge and accelerator board featuring an Intel i960. Reportedly, it was 7 times faster than Adobe's cartridge in full-page graphics Postscript, and 10-20 % faster in text postscript. Has anyone seen/used/purchased this combo ? I am interested to see how well it fares in the real world, not just the (somtimes over) glossy pages of PC Mag. A concern I have is that the accelerator only comes with 2MB RAM, bringing the total to 3MB. I know the printer will handle up to 5MB. Will I still be able to expand to 5MB with this accel. board in there ? Are there any annoying quirks with the system ? Thanks Andy Cook acook@athena.mit.edu
