Does anyone know > where you can get a tool to undo these ? I don't think you have a genuine IBM power supply in that box. I had an IBM PC (not even an XT) and had to replace the 65w power supply so that I could have enough to juice to run a hard disk. It uses normal screws - 4 to be exact - which secure it to the cabinet. I'm wondering if you're describing the "torax" (sp?) screw heads -- a lot of hardware stores carry screwdrivers with these now because they're common on a lot of cars. As for the noise, you're right - they are noisey boxes. I'd think somebody makes a quieter fan -- I knew one guy who found a company (many years back) which made a power supply with a 2-speed fan and a temperature probe. It would operate in the quiet, low-speed mode unless the temp. in the case got too warm -- at which point it would kick up to high speed. Another suggestion to quiet the noise is to move it away from you. Buy a floor stand and put the computer beneath your desk - this will make the noise a lot less obvious. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- In real life: Tim Campbell - Electronic Data Systems Corp.
