[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] HP III PostScript cartridge info?

usenet@nlm.nih.gov (usenet news poster) (06/05/91)

Does the PostScript cartridge for the HP III and IIIP come with
enough memory to run PostScript on board, or will a memory board
be required in addition to the cartridge?
Or, do these features get bundled so often that I just
got the mistaken notion that these things come together?
What do you need as a minimum for a HP III PostScript
	machine.

The manual says that you need 1 meg of optional printer memory
and suggests that you have 2 megs of optional printer memory,
to achieve optimal performance.

The Adobe PostScript cartridge marketed by HP (part #33439P) does NOT come
with RAM, either within the cartridge or bundled with it. You must add
at least 1 MB of additional memory to have a useful PostScript printer.

(The version of Pacific Page designed for the "LaserJet Series II" [quotes
are intentional and this model number is to be taken =LITERALLY=] is
sometimes packaged with a memory board in order to compete with the
Adobe-marketed cartridge for the same printer, which is much cheaper).
