Greetings Fellow net.travlers, My wife and I are planing to spend a couple of weeks in Jamaica if we can put together a cheep enough package. Thats MY problem.... But what I realy need to know is some general info about Jamaica, Ocho Rios, Montego, etc. 1) When is a good time to go (not too hot) ? 2) How is the food/water condition ? Should I be prepared for gastrointestinal problems ? 4) What should I see while I am down there ? What should I NOT see i.e. waste my time ? 5) Any other tips I should know ? Thanks for all your help. Dave Wargo ucbvax!sdcsvax!sdcsla:wargo

We got a package deal roundtrip from Dallas with a seven night stay. The trip ended up costing about $600. We stayed at the Americana hotel which was one of the two high rises on the beach. It was nice, not too fancy. We noticed most of the tourists were the traditional middle-aged couples from Chicago or Detroit. Not a great singles place but there were a few discos in the hotels, etc. The food and water are fine. No reason to worry except if you make the same mistake we did and eat at a very local restaurant. It was the curried goat that got the both of us sick for a day. It was our own fault, though. You might take a day trip to Kingston. Locally, Dunn's River Falls ( a small waterfall) is probably worth seeing. The hotels run all sorts of sightseeing junkets and you can decide for yourself what interests you. We took the "Jamaican Lobster & Raggae Dinner Party" one night and really had a blast seeing the tourists get drunk on the unlimitnch and make fools of themselves. (I kept my mouth shut 'cause my head was spinning too fast to attempt communication). If you like reggae, you'll love Jamaica. THe people are really friendly and will talk to you even if you aren't interested in what they're selling. Most things are moderately inexpensive and the furthur devaluation of the Jamaican dollar should help things. Things are pretty laid-back. "No problem" is a oft-used expression that means they'll try to do whatever you asked. "soon come" can mean anything from 5 minutes to 4 hours. "No problem". Of course, marijuana (ganja) is a popular drug and just about everybody will try to sell you some. It's still illegal, though. All in all, we had a fun trip. I heartily advise you go. P.S. A good travel guide will tell you more details if you're interested. Bruce Kravitz ...!ctvax!uokvax!brkravit or ...!duke!uok!uokvax!brkravit
