[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Future Domain TMC830 and Quantum Q280...

aviz@lanai.cs.ucla.edu (Dr Algirdas Avizienis) (06/07/91)

Hello!

I just recently acquired a Quantum Q280 SCSI hard disk used and
had it repaired. Then I got a Future Domain TMC830 SCSI controller
card. Unfortunately, neither had any documentation whatsoever.
I called Quantum and got all of the jumpers set on the hard drive.
It is set as SCSI Device 0. The future domain card has several
jumpers, but I just left them as is. I hooked the two up, and the
system, which by the way is a 640K Turbo XT Clone with a floppy
controller and a VGA card and a serial port, wouldn't start up.
I messed around with some of the jumpers, and figured out that the
problem was that the BIOS of the SCSI card were in the wrong spot in
memory, but I got that fixed. Now when I booted it up, the card spends
a long time (45 seconds) looking for SCSI devices, but finds none.
Messing around with the card, I have gotten nothing accomplished.
Does anyone have any idea what to do? I have tried to find a phone
number for Future Domain, but have been unable to do so. If anyone
has any info, about either a solution or a phone number for Future
Domain, please send e-mail. I also believe that I will need some
sort of device driver. If anyone knows what kind or where, please
e-mail as well.
