A few months ago we bought a 386 clone here in Berlin. An IBM token ring LAN has already been installed at our institute, and we planned to connect the new machine to the LAN. So we bought a token ring adapter card from the same dealer. But this damn thing doesnt't work! After they sent it back to the manufacturer, diagnostic software finds the card, but the drivers don't. The computer is called "gray 386", the motherboard is made by Phoenix. The card's brand is Olicom, a company from Denmark. The dealer, by the way not of great help, says that it's perhaps the problem of conflicting "interrupts" or "addresses". I checked an original IBM-PC, connected to the LAN, and found out, that the adapter card has interrupt "IRQ 9" (this says the CHECKIT software). Our friend the dealer says, that the IBM-PC LAN Support programs assume this interrupt and the card is somewhere else (?). And also IRQ 9 is no good on IBM compatibles because it is somehow connected to IRQ 2, which has the note [CASCADE] (says CHECKIT). This means it is cancelled, or you shouldn't use it. As perhaps you can see from the unprofessional use of all these terms I dont know too much about the complete thing. But maybe someone can tell me, if the dealer is right? Or has anybody experience with IBM compatibles with third party adadpter cards in an IBM Token Ring LAN ? Thank you
