Hi everyone, I will be working on a parallel disk array for my final year project here in Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. In case you don't know, a parallel disk array is putting several disk drives together and accessing it at the same time (almost) to increase transfer rate. I will be working with SCSI drives and transputer cards. I hope to do without the transputer cards in the my own personnel version. What I need from everybody is what they would like most in a disk drive? Like built in caching, read ahead buffering cache writes. Auto error correction and whatever else you can think of. I also need some ideas on where material on this subject can be found. I will be leaving HP by Friday 14th of this month. So any replies, please be quick. There will be another team here who will be working with a transputer card and an ESDI drive to improve performance. I welcome any suggestions and ideas from all the experienced PC users out there. I know such a system has already been prototyped (on sale?) but this is a research project. Thanks for everyones help in advance.
