I have a 3.5" high-density floppy drive that works fine most of the time but sometimes the drive's worm gear appears to freeze or lock up. Then the drive can be accessed, but all accesses return errors. I have been fixing it by removing the drive, taking off the cover and manually turning the worm gear with a pair of needle nose pliers for a couple of turns and then reinstalling. This will fix it for a few days to a week and then the problem reocurrs. Needless to say this is starting to become irritating. Is there any more permanent cure for this problem? The drive is about two years old or so. Is the lubricant "worn"? Are these drives prone to this kind of failure mode? I don't want to have to buy yet another drive. derek -- Derek "Tigger" Terveer det@hawkmoon.MN.ORG -- U of MN Women's Lax I am the way and the truth and the light, I know all the answers; don't need your advice. -- "I am the way and the truth and the light" -- The Legendary Pink Dots
