[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Daisy-chaining IDE harddrives

Robert_Bell@mindlink.bc.ca (Robert Bell) (06/12/91)

I know this has been covered before, but I missed the outcome. Is it possible to
daisy-chain a western digital 40meg hd with a teac 40 meg hd?If so what jumpers
do I need to set(wd=drive 0 teac= drive 1)and what sort of cable does it use
ie, is it twisted as on floppies.Would it be better to get a host card that has
connections for two IDE drives.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You shouldn't have any problems with getting the WD and the Teac working
together. It would be helpful if you included the model #'s of the drives
involved, as some similar styles have different logic boards.

If there is any silkscreening on the drives, try to determine where the
Master and Slave jumpers on each one. With the appropriate jumpers set,
(Master = C: and Slave = D:), you might be ready to go. Sometimes a
manufacturer will decide that that isn't good enough, and back to square
one you go.

  Hope that helps.
