I have heard that in the past some Seagate models had reliability problems. Does anyone know if (assuming this is true) these have been corrected in recent models (e.g. the Seagate 157 40 MB IDE). Also, how do Seagate drives compare with Connor (for reliability)? Thanks, --Marc

Both Seagate and Connor publish MTBF figures for their drives. I belive both are longer than I expect to own the drive, or even the computer. Take a look a warranty and price, then decide. I like Seagate drives, and have had good luck with them for years. Some of the old Seagates were shock prone and that helped to contribute to the rumors, and some people believe that what costs more much be better and badmouth the cheap product so they won't feel dumb for spending more money. One dealer had his failure rate drop by about 75% when he got a new UPS man for a month. I believe both are good drives, at similar cost and reliability figures. -- bill davidsen - davidsen@sixhub.uucp (uunet!crdgw1!sixhub!davidsen) sysop *IX BBS and Public Access UNIX moderator of comp.binaries.ibm.pc and 80386 mailing list "Stupidity, like virtue, is its own reward" -me
