[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] LaserMaster and Canon printer

pjh@mccc.edu (Peter J. Holsberg) (06/23/91)

I just purchased a Canon LBP-CX laser printer with a LaserMaster
JetScript Postscript controller board. It's terrific! However, I have
several pieces of software that do not support postscript printing, and
I was wondering if there's any way to send HP PCL commands directly to
the Canon.

The LBP-CX is the same engine as used in the Aplle Laserwriter and
Laserwriter Plus, the HP LJ and LJ Plus, and the QMS-PS 800 and 800+
(and various printers from Wang, Cordate, Linotype, Imagen, etc.)

The JetScript User's Manual shows how to bypass the LaserMaster if you
are using an HP LJ II, but it has separate inputs for "normal" LJ II and
for the adapter card that plugs into the optional interface slot of the
LJ II, but the Canon doesn't use an adapter: the LM controller gets connected
to the Canon's one and only input connector.

Has anyone done this successfully?

Incidentally, I bought this from The Printer Works for $1025, including
shipping.

Thanks,
Pete
