[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] WD1007A & JDR NEAT 386SX fails to boot

Michael Squires <mikes@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu> (06/24/91)

I have been working with a 386SX using the AMI BIOS and NEAT chipset made
by MCT and sold by JDR. When trying to boot from a WD1007A ESDI HD
controller it will often (1) display garbage (2) start boot, crash during
memory checking (3) boot, in about that order of probability. After
booting it seems to run fine under SCO UNIX or Novell Netware 2.15C as
a dedicated server.

The WD1007 and had drive were last used about six months ago and were
working flawlessly at that time.

Removing the board causes the machine to start self-test every time
without problems.

Any ideas?
