[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] HELP. What motherboard do I have?

graham@convex.com (Marv Graham) (06/24/91)

I recently swapped a Micronics 16MHz motherboard for what my VAR and I both
thought was a 20MHz motherboard. I then bought a 387 to add to it. We
couldn't make the 387 work, so I wrote to Micronics (including photos) to
get a manual that would give the correct switch settings. The reply from
Micronics: we didn't make that motherboard. Looks like a Hawk clone of
our board. Hawk says they didn't make it either.

The board accepts and works with the standard Micronics memory board that came
out of the 16MHz motherboard. (That's why we thought the 20MHz board was a
Micronics.) But is has a 386 socket, a 387 socket, AND a 287 socket. It will
work with a 287 (by setting switch 2 - just as on a Micronics board.) We
could find no combination of switches 2 and 3 and the jumper near the 387 socket
to make the 387 accessible. The VAR has had a falling out with Lucky Computer
(where he got the board) because they refused to admit that the board is not
a Micronics board (even though Micronics says it's not). That avenue for a
manual that matches the board or to identify it so a manual can be acquired
is closed.

I need your help to get the 387 to work with this board. What do you suggest?
