[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Practical Peripherals Modem Upgrade

ferris@gradient.cis.upenn.edu (Richard T. Ferris) (06/26/91)

I saw that PP has a software upgrade for their 2400 bps modems that
incorporates V42bis. Has anyone tried this? Could you report your
results? Thanks.

It is not a software upgrade. You have to get an RMA# and send your modem
back to PP. They will send you a new one with the upgraded hardware for
V.42bis support. The cost is $49 plus shipping to them. I just sent mine
in so do not have anything to report yet on the result.

Does the practical peripherals upgrade for $49 of the PM2400 series
modems allow ANY pm2400 series modem to be upgraded? I have an early
PM2400SA with no MNP. Can that too be graded? Or is it just the newer
MNP modems?

Just to give everyone a heads up, PP says they will be coming out with an
upgrade to v.32bis for their 9600SA modem by the end of summer. No word yet on
cost/method, but they say 'we would like for it to be free'.
