The write protect signal is either an optical sensor or a small switch
in the floppy drive. It disables directly the write circuitry in the 
drive and it directs a software detectable signal towards the computer.
If in your case, the write protect sensor is defective, it doesn't make sense
to fool DOS; no actual writing on the media will occur.
