I haven't cycled around Scotland but the last year that I lived there I planned a cycling trip across Scotland but had to change my plans because I moved out to California. Basically, most roads in Scotland are very hilly but go through some of the most beautiful countryside. Just as in England and most of Europe, there are Youth Hostels in Scotland. The distance between Youth Hostels is such to accomodate hill walkers, i.e. you can walk between two Youth Hostels in a day. Its been a long time but I seem to remember what I wanted do was as follows :- take British Rail up to Inverness, cycle along Loch Ness and Loch Lochy. Get to Fort Williams. Cycle down to Glencoe and then to Crianlarich and take British Rail to Edinburgh where I used to live. Rethinking about it while I'm writing this, I wish I had done it before I came out here. If you want more information about SYHA (Scottish Youth Hostel Association), you can write to them. They can send you a map of youth hostels as well as a book on where they all are and their accessability. I don't have their address offhand. All their publications cost money as they need it to upkeep the hostels. If you can't get their address elsewhere, let me know as I'll send it as mail. Fazil Osman !ucbvax!sdcsvax!bmcg!fazil
