[comp.os.msdos.programmer] memory allocation & C

I have a C program which spawns several processes, one of which is a TSR.
The problem is that I do not get any memory back after the C program
completes.  I believe this is because instead of the C program's memory
being given back to DOS, it is given to the TSR.  Is this the case?  If
so, is there any possibility of letting DOS have that memory back, or
do I have to call my TSR before the C program (messy).  Any ideas?
