How do those access control programs work? The ones that limit the number of people that can simultaneously access an application, as seen in this month's PC Magazine. They seem to be small TSR's that read configuration files from a server. I can see writing a quick and dirty program that checks a number in a file on ther server, but what if a workstation gets rebooted, etc. without 'checking' the software back in, to let the server know it is no longer running it? Does the server have to poll the workstations that have 'checked out' a copy of the software? Is there a shareware/pd version of this type of program?
