[comp.os.msdos.programmer] rename bug in ms-dos

I have been wondering for a long time what to do in general about a bug in
MS-DOS (at least 4.01 and 3.21 that I am sure of) in that if I rename a file
it doesn't set the archive bit so that when I back it up; well it won't get
backed up under its new name.

As a temporary solution I use my command-line recall to make rename invoke chmod 
afterwards.  This is a kludge and I wonder if anyone's written
a mod to rename to do the right thing.
