I have another question... but first... Is there a place that stores all the old comp.os.msdos.programmer msgs?? I just started using usenet and to save the world $ I would be willing to scan (fgrep?) the old files for references to my questions... (and perhaps bother only certain people with email).. I was reading through my DecStation 333c Technical Reference manual and I found some comments on the CMOS batter backed up ram.. it says there are 114 bytes that are backed up... and then proceeds to explan bytes 0x00 through 0x37. 114 bytes should go up to 0x62... ( I re-wrote that information into a txt file for myself for quick reference It is NOT complete... but if it isn't against any rules and anyone is interested i would post or send them a copy... )... Does anyone know what the other bytes are used for? this is really only curiosity... I can't really think of anything to actually STORE there.. (except perhaps EMS handles if your EMS hardware could survive a warm boot... hmmm.... interesting thought... purpose?? who knows... maybe a RAM disk that could survive CTRL-ALT-DEL....) Any reference to a location I can read up on this data I would really appreciate... I am semi-new to ibm programming.. (I have been working with it for 2 years... but now I am getting into "system" programming and I am really enjoying it..) There are several RESERVED bytes in the CMOS.. how safe would they be for playing with??? (O! It JUST occured to me.. are all 386 CMOS layouts the same...??? I guess not, or there would be a general SETUP program for them...hmmm..) Are there any FTP sites that deal with Technical information on the pc?? bios calls, low memory mapping, undocumented this/that... etc.. I have most of the bios calls (and undocumented ones ...) but it seems like each book I read gives me 1 more... or explaines it a little better..
