[comp.os.msdos.programmer] hd security

kds10773@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu (Ken S.) (10/09/90)

I've seen several programs that disable a hard disk unless the system
is booted from that hard disk. (PCLOCK, the Protec security system, etc).

I believe that this may be done by changing the HD's media byte or other
data necessary for adding the drive to the device chain, but not checked
at pre-boot time. Does anyone have conformation of this or know of a
source of a simple PD program (for analysis) that does this?

Thanks in advance! (please MAIL responces to kds@uiuc.edu)
