[comp.os.msdos.programmer] Source needed!!

rg2c+@andrew.cmu.edu (Robert Nelson Gasch) (10/09/90)

Hi,
I'm currently working on a project and am looking for either a short
utility in Pascal or C that will load a picture (format doesn't really
matter) onto a machine haveing VGA Graphics capabilities. If anybody has
something liek this, could they please mail it to me.
Note: I'm looking for some source code, not a graphics package that
will do this.

Thanx alot --> Rob

Rob... If you have the option to use it in your program, and you plan to
let others use your program (ie public Domain or Shareware...) then I
suggest you find a GIF load/save support... just for compatibilitie reasons.
(then if you want to load other pixs in... from yours and other types of
systems... )

By the way, if you can get a hold of the GIf89a format for loading/saving,
could you please forward me a copy just so I have it for reference...
The info's below...
Thanxs, Steve

Howdy everyone! First let me say that I haven't programmed much in the
last 10 years or so, thus I am horribly ancient and out of practice.
However, I have now decided that I would like to restart programming
and am looking for some guides. I have also decided that "C" is where
I want to start -- flames to /dev/null!

I have also decided that to get my feet wet I would like to write my
own GIF viewer for my video card. Therefore, I need some pointers to
source code that I can look at or anything else that would be useful.

My environment: 386/33, 8Mb, 210Mb hd, MSC 5.1, no MASM.
I won't change to MSC 6.0 (I have no video libraries for my video card
yet) and I sincerely doubt that I want to change to another compiler.

I have seen VUGIF and there are some things I like about it. I have
seen FASTGIF and there are some things I like about it. I have seen
PICEM and there are things I like about it. I have also seen GCP and
there are some really neat things about it.

any suggestions?

Kevin
