From: The Mu <hofmann@AMSAA.ARPA> Met this guy at a party the other day; he runs a record store specializing in hard-to-get imports and US underground releases. Later this week, I procure the recent summer catalog from his company. I was impressed by the selection and prices as well as a small blurb describing the circumstances behind each release. It also included the news that a Muffins/Fred Frith albumn is soon to be released. It will be called OPEN CITY and include 6 unreleased Muffins tunes + 2 pieces recorded for GRAVITY. Here's some samplers from the catalog that caught my eye: Cool & the Clones ( DC funk/thrash band ) - $6.00 Robyn Hitchkok -BLACK SNAKE DIAMOND ROSE (UK) - first releases - $4.50 (!) Early Dylan rarities (ITALIAN) - $5.00 ea. No Trend/ Lydia Lunch - A DOZEN RED ROSES - $6.00 The Residents - $5.00 Iggy Pop - ZOMBIE BIRDHOUSE & NO FUN - $4.00 This is just a sample of about a hundred different releases. And this is just the Summer Catalog ( 4 a year ). He also has an annual green catalog of stock items claiming hundreds of selections. I haven't seen anything yet so can't confirm this. But really! If you want to get in touch with them, write: WAYSIDE RECORDS P.O. BOX 6517 WHEATON, MD 20906-0517, USA Tell them Mooge's neighbor sent you. Jim Hofmann

...and as I have said myself in this very space that guy you met at a party is no slouch himself. His name is Steve Feigenbaum and along with hornist Tom Scott he is responsible for some fine music. Check out "Things Are More Like They Are Now Than They Ever Were Before" - fine experimental/jazz stuff not *too* far removed from Muffins/H. Cow/Frith. And for godssake, people, send Steve your money! He is providing a tremendous service to those of us who want unusual/obscure stuff and don't have a fortune to spend on it. Add you favorite discalimer about my not being a silent partner in Wayside Music here... - George "... giving you away like motel matches..."
