[comp.os.msdos.programmer] MSDOS tape backup advice

rrw@naucse.cse.nau.edu (Robert Wier) (10/16/90)

If this is posted to the wrong newsgroup, please forgive.

Some time ago (4 - 5 months) I saw an ad for a tape backup
system (not 9 track) for PCs and clones. The nice thing
about this was that it functioned via the printer port,
and didn't require a card for each machine. Since we have
a BUNCH of pcs here, with no means of tape backup, we got
 a problem....

It doesn't look like we could afford a seperate backup
unit for each machine, so I wonder if anyone could pass along
 any suggestions for:

A unit working via the printer port (I know, it'll probably
 be slow)

  or

A unit where you can buy the tape unit seperate from the
controller cards. If necessary, then we could install a
controller card in each machine, and move the tape unit
 around as backups were needed.

I have 3 ATs with moderately large hd's which I'd REALLY like
 to back up....

 THANKS
