My "old.questions" file (in the comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc archives) says that Susie W. Chu (chu@ames.arc.nasa.gov) on 19 April 1990 posted a description of the data format used by getimage(). Instructions on accessing this and other files in the archives is included in the Frequently Asked Questions file for comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc.
