[net.travel] Places to stay in Italy

I plan to be in Florence, Venice, Sienna and Ravenna
the last two weeks of September and
would appreciate recommendations on hotels or pensiones(sp?). I'm
looking for something fairly moderate in price, with bath, in non-noisy
non-touristy areas. Since I will be driving a car, parking is a
consideration, also. Any recommendations on restaurants, must-see sites,
and good deals in shopping would also be appreciated. Please reply
by e-mail, or if US Snail is more reliable, I can be reached at:

We were in Venice, Florence and Rome last fall. We carried
"Europe on $20 a Day"--well known; no comments needed.
We also carried "Stephen Birnbaum brings you the very best
of Europe 1983," and I commend this book to you. Note that
Birnbaum picks "the very best" in every price category,
although his bottom is roughly Frommer's top.

For what it's worth, Time magazine picked Birnbaum as the
all-around best European guide.
