[comp.os.msdos.programmer] use of DRIVER.SYS and DOS

amichiel@rodan.acs.syr.edu (Allen J Michielsen) (12/25/90)

I have both portables with lcd displays and machines with composite monitors
hanging off cga adapters. In a attempt to simplify use for 'casual' users,
I'm trying some stuff to improve their limited operations.
I'm using ms-dos 3.3 dated 7/27/87, reading the manual rather carefully,
it looks like use of driver.sys will provide some support for what I'm trying
to do easily.
Anyway, I can't get driver.sys to install in the config.sys without
getting a invalid syntax on display.sys code page driver error message at boot.
I'm experimentating with empty config & autoexec files, and followed everything
I can garner out of the manuals, but can't overcome the error
device=driver.sys con:=cga or any combo of other legal params includingor
excluding options doesn't seem to make any difference.
Anybody that is using the driver.sys with cga or cga class hardware that
could give me a clue would be greatly appreciated. Send or post of a working
config.sys & autoexec.bat may be the easiest. Also please date the
command.com too incase it's a minor version difference....
Thanks... al
