[comp.os.msdos.programmer] shareware C graphical windowing library needed

greg@turbo.atl.ga.us (Greg Montgomery) (12/23/90)

I'm looking for a shareware/PD graphical windowing library for DOS. I know
of only, TEGL, and I would like to know of any others and where I can get a
copy of them. I'm trying to write a program that has a GUI and can't
seem to find a good library to do it with. Since I'm doing this for a
science project, I don't really want to buy the Windows SDK... Any
ideas??? Thanks...

Via anonymous ftp:

CXL52-1.ZIP and CXL52-2.ZIP at SIMTEL [26.2.0.74] in directory
PD1:<MSDOS.C> might be the C window/menu/mouse library you seek.

CXL is fine, but it doesn't seem to work in graphical mode - character
graphics only.

There is also a more recent version in PD1:<MSDOS.TURBO-C>TCXL51.ZIP
for those with TC.

Shouldn't that be TCXL551.ZIP?? v5.51 is current, and v5.52 should be
out very soon now...

Do you mean that they finally sent out a demo of TCXL? Or is this just the
5.1 demo? Too bad I can't seem to get to SimTel. Is it on the mirror site yet?

I got mine from Nodak. On closer scrutiny, it is *not* a TurboC-only
version, which I initially thought -- it also contains the MSC and ZTC
libraries.

I don't know about demo -- it contains full (small model) libraries,
documentation and the TCXLDEMO.{EXE,C}.

Woops. I mistyped - it should be TCXL551.ZIP.

That's almost correct. I can't find all include files - the demo program
wants one which wasn't included. Furthermore, the Zortech library
file doesn't appear to be complete - I get linking errors for a few
routines. Sigh.

I dowloaded TCXL551.ZIP from WSMR the other day and was able to build
the demo with turbo c/c++. The include file shows up missing because
of a typing error in the demo( i assume ). I deleted the package and don't
remember the name of the culprit header file but you can get around it
by either editing the demo and removing the leading underscore or if
your editor won't handle files > 64k by copying the file.h to _file.h.

After unzipping, the header files are located in a subdirectory
relative to the demo.

Although I didn't spend much time with it, the package looks like a
very complete text based toolkit with support for windows, menus, ems,
mouse, string handling, etc. I don't remember seeing any support for
graphics mode.

Hope this helps,

Mike.
