I have a small problem concerning reading and writing the com1 port on a PC. I'm not usually a PC programmer, but I want to write a small program that sends and recieves data through com1 to/from a modem. Using kermit set to com1, 2400baud, xon/xoff, etc works fine. But if I use the dos command echo hello modem > com1: I just get an error (write failure or something). I though this might be because the com1 port had not been initialized, but if I do a PUSH from kermit to put me in an OS shell, it doesn't help. I also tried using the Turbo Pascal MsDos() call to use the system function 04H (I forget the name - outputs a character to AUX I think (Is this the same?)). But the machine just pauses for a while - then comes back to turbo without an error - however nothing happens! -David.
