[net.travel] Query: Canada in the winter

Perhaps someone out there can help...

I will be spending a week in Canada next January, probably close to
Quebec and Montreal. Can anyone give me any pointers as to what to
do/see, how to get around, etc. in that area???

Thanks,

P.S. I hate skiing, but enjoy other winter sports.

If you like cold (and possibly wet) weather, you'll love Montreal and
Quebec City in January.

I can't speak for Quebec City, but having spent the first 21 years of
my life in Montreal, it can get very cold.

The Laurentians are nice in winter - very picturesque, even if
you don't like skiing. I'd suggest a day or two driving the secondary
roads north of St. Agathe to see a bit of how it used to look. The
high tech ski area has spoiled a lot of it, of course.

In the city, winter is very much like any other - ice and slush.
Except in the center of the city, Mt. Royal. Very nice, still uncommercial-
ized. If you skate, try Beaver Lake.

Bon voyage.
