We're doing image processing applications with huge arrays (megabytes of data) and are getting ready to buy a 386 compiler with DOS extender. We had a very bad experience with Zortech's 386 C++ combined with Phar Lap -- basically all the C code we had that works (with minor alterations) under Microsoft, Turbo and Unix broke when we tried to compile and run under Zortech. We returned the product, but are still in the soup, since we NEED the capabilities of the 386 in protected mode. We're wondering what experiences people might have had with Metaware or Watcom, for instance, and with the DOS extenders that run with them. In particular, we would like to know what to look out for, and whether people have had experiences with porting/compatibility. Thanks in advance.
