[comp.os.msdos.programmer] Defender blackbox for call back/ File Hide utility.

briantr@sunnet.EBay.Sun.COM (Brian T.) (02/06/91)

Hi there,

I have Procomm Plus installed on a PC which is readily available for other
users to log in to get data. The password file is just an ascii file,
which could be read by anyone sitting in front of the PC. This means
that someone other than myself can get access to the "superuser"
password contained in that ASCII file.

I would like to know how to protect this password file from other users.
I have tried the Norton utilities (file hide) but it seems that if the
user already knows the name of the file and where it is located, he can
easily type it out.

Does anyone know/has any written program that will fix the above problem.

Also, does anybody know about a package called "Defender" which is a
Software/Hardware blackbox which allows users to dial in, type in some
password, and it will hang up and call back the users? I used this
a while back as a user, but forgot where I can purchase it now that
I need it :-(

Your help would be very much appreciated,

Brian
