Hi folks: I am not a programmer, never have been. However, tinkering around with DOS for a long while has made me more adroit with DOS batch language programming than the average novice. It seems that the newer, more powerful (386) machines require me to be more knowledgable about computer hardware and software than I am. Recently, having acquired QEMM 5.11, I feel the need to undestand more clearly concepts like "memory areas" and bios "interrupts." Could you suggest a book, written in English (as opposed to technicalese), that may help me understand memory areas, including aspects of extended/expanded memory, *page framing*, etc. Most importantly, I wish to be able to read and understand hexadecimal notations that are used to measure and identify memory blocks. I can count numbers in four languages, but not in hexadecimal. I am sure many of you have taught yourselves in the process of becoming experts. Are there any books, publications, etc., that I can read to be somewhat more literate than I am now? Thanks, in advance, for your suggestions. - Jhinuk.
