I will be travelling to Japan next week on a combined business/pleasure
trip. After spending several days in Nara on business, I would like to
spend a few days sightseeing and scuba diving on one of the islands in the
Okinawa chain. The information I have been able to find on this area is
somewhat skimpy though.
Can anyone tell me which island(s) have the best scuba diving in the area?
What are your experiences with good/bad dive shops? How about access to the
islands? (I will be flying from Osaka.) All that Japan Air Lines can tell
me is how to get to Okinawa. I know there are airports on several other
islands (e.g. Ishigaki) but I haven't been able to find out how to get
flights there. Also, where are the best places to eat and sleep on these
islands? I would like to get as much of the 'flavor' of Japan as possible,
so I am particularly interested in ryokans and the like.
