Is there a beginner-level document somewhere that tells how to use the interrupts and interrupt functions in DOS? I see lots of references to these...I suppose people use them to have finer control over the hardware/system/bios than provided by the functions usually provided by the compilers. Is this right? Like for instance: I want to write a simple program to get/put chars to COM1. Some compilers (like MIX PowerC) have a few builtin functions to do this. I know, however, that there are interrupts (are these in bios or dos?) that do the same. Why would _I_ use one over the other? How would I know when which method is appropriate? How would I do the int method? thanx for your _Patience_ :-) (Flames about compilers to /dev/null, unless you care to donate something) -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael G.
