[comp.os.msdos.programmer] Corel LS2000 Optical Drive problem

mm@idca.tds.PHILIPS.nl (M. Molenaar) (03/22/91)

We are trying to install the following configuration: a 386-PC
with two optical disk drives.
An overview of our configuration:
     - 386 PC with ESDI diskdrive
     - 1 LD-510 WORM drive (ID 0, LUN 0)
     - 1 LD-520 MultiFunction drive (ID 1, LUN 0)
     - VGA color monitor
     - Corel LS2000 SCSI interface card
On the LS2000 card and LD-510 the termination power is disabled,
only the termination power of the LD-520 is enabled.

In config.sys the following statement is added:

device=c:\coreldrv\uni_ls2.sys /MEM:CC00 /C:2 /DOS4 /SS:512
/VOL:1 /@4:-6-6 /SCSI:68 /TW2

Note that the LD-520 is configurated here as a LD-510 (WORM).

To test the reliability of the configuration we started a little
durationtest: a DOS batch file which copies a number of files
from drive d: to e: and vice versa, in a loop.
Between about 5 minutes and an hour the system hangs.
At this moment the LS2000 tries to control the d: drive (LD-510),
the green LED is off.

We have done this test before with exactly the same configuration
but in stead of a LS2000 card, a Future Domain controller.
This runs without problems.
So we are thinking of a hardware dependency.
We do not think the controller is defect, because two other
LS2000 cards in other 386-PC types have the same problem.

Is there anyone who had the same problem or can anyone give me
a hint where to search for the problem ?

Thanks,

Marco.
