[net.travel] Capitol Airline Bankruptcy

Capitol Airlines announced this morning 26 November that they are in
involuntary bankruptcy and have suspended all flights.

If you bought a Capitol ticket within the last week from a travel agent
and haven't used it yet get to that travel agent as soon as possible and at
least by Tuesday afternoon and you may have a chance to recover your money.
If you bought your ticket with a credit card check with the credit card
company and you also may escape. Some credit card companies will let you
escape if you haven't yet paid the bill, some even if you have but haven't
used the ticket, and some not at all. (By the way this is an important
reason why you should always buy an airline ticket with a credit card. There
are other reasons like it is impossible to refund if the ticket is lost or
stolen since all refunds go back to the credit card).
If you bought your ticket direct from Capitol, or by check or cash more
than a week ago, then check with the other airlines on the same routing. They
have the option of taking your ticket for flight on their airline. They may
charge you a surcharge or make you fly stand-by.
If you are unable to do any of the above remember that you can buy
insurance against defaults by airlines. When you buy tickets which are on
airlines with questionable financial status then the insurance is probably a
good investment. It typically costs about $5 a hundred for protection.
