[comp.os.msdos.programmer] GNU C++, Support for DMPI/XMS ie Himem/Qemm??

u855203@probitas.cs.utas.edu.au (Michael Harlow) (06/03/91)

(I previously posted this to comp.sys.ibm.pc, because I couldn't remember
the name of this group, sorry)

I have recently ftp'ed and set up the GNU C++ 32bit protected mode compiler
for MSDOS. In order to run any program compiled with this system, or even the
compiler itself, it must be able to flip into protected mode. This is not
possible if Himem or QEMM386 has put the machine into V8086 mode. Is there a
way to get EMS and Smartdrive, and still be able to use this wonderful FREE
32BIT C++ compiler ??
I like the video driver support too, 1024x768x256 looks nice on my ET4000
video card.

Would it be possible to add DMPI support to the compiler, or does it need a
clean machine to take over and run 32bit in ? How about under Windows 3.0 ?
(dreaming ??) XMS awareness ??

Thanks,  Michael.

PS. Thanks to the GNU people, FSF, and the porter of the C++ to Dos (DJ?)
