[comp.os.msdos.programmer] MSC 6.0A problem using Codeview w/ 2 monitors from PWB.

pabres13@pc.usl.edu (Joubert John V.) (06/03/91)

	Hello netters,

I have a problem with Microsoft Codeview when it is called from the
Programmer's Work Bench, it runs on my monochrome monitor in Black on Black
mode! I can see the cursor, and I can tell that the program is running because
hitting F5 will make the program run on the color monitor, and Alt-F X will
exit Codeview and put me back on the PWB.

For further information: Video 7 Fastwrite VGA (512), Herc Compatible
monochrome card, IBM monochrome Personal Computer Display, all this mess
running on a Gateway 2000 386-20 w/ 4 Meg memory.

The codeview works fine in two monitor mode when run from the DOS
command line with "CV /2 program.exe." The same command line works from
the "Run DOS Command" dialog box from PWB. A call to Microsoft Tech Support
yielded no help, he says "hmmm, should work!... hmmm must be something in the
settings file... ." He didn't say anything else of value.

If anyone has any recommendations on fixing this problem, I would
greatly appreciate it.

	Oh, yeah, one other problem:
I have set tab stops on the editor to 4 spaces (same as I use QC 2.0), which
works fine on the screen, but when I print out my code, the tabs are at 8
spaces on the page (making code look really ugly & out of shape). I know
this sounds petty but... it works in Quick C!

	Any help on this appreciated.

Now... the ONLY reason I can imagine anyone would want to upgrade
their C version to 6.0 from 5.1 ...

The source browser! .... ta dah .... that's it... the anticlimax of
the year...

For those who have not upgraded, keep 5.1, and buy QC 2.5 for ~$60.00
for the libraries and assembly module, and use 5.1 compiler with QC libraries.
Add me to the list of folks considering TC++, and call me Under-Whelmed.

Sorry but I can't help with the video problem, but here is my setup:

	NEC Powermate 2 (286) 640Kb RAM, VGA.

	MS C 6.00a, dmake 3.7, QEdit, Codeview,
	assorted Unix-like utilities.

I dumped the PWB after a couple of frustrating weeks. However,
I find that the compiler with its libraries, and extra optimizations
is great. The only problem I've had is running out of near heap space during
pass one. This was solved however, when I got version 3.7 of dmake, and
compiled up a swapping version of it. Dmake, for those who don't know, is
a make facility that uses a superset of the Unix make's functionality.

I use QEdit as my editor, and considering it's capabilities, I've not found
another to match it. It was developed with the C programmer in mind.

If you would like more information, e-mail me.

Brad.
