A friend of mine and I are thinking about driving half-way across
country this summer (destination Iowa...that's where she's from).
We are thinking about renting a small RV (not a trailer, I
wouldn't do that to my Toyota) for our transportation. Neither of
us knows anything about RV....so, we have some questions:
o are there places around to rent RV's? (We live in
Massachusetts)
o what would be a good "make" to rent? (what should we
look for, what should we avoid?)
o what kind of milage do these things get (ie...what will
it cost us in gas?)
We have also considered the possibility of getting a "drive away"
which we would only have to drive one-way. We would take it
anywhere, within reason, in the mid-west and then get ourselves to
Iowa by renting a car, or by some other form of transportation.
o does such a thing as a "drive away", or one way rental,
of an RV exist?
We have also considered buying an old VW Van, unfortunately, we
just missed out on a super one. What do people think of this as
an option?
Any thoughts, suggestions, offers of rentals by private parties,
ideas on where to find answers to the above questions would be
much appreciated.
I have also posted this notice in "net.auto", but I thought that
perhaps some of you travelers might have some interesting
experiences to share on this type of travel. I'd appreciate it if
you send mail directly to me, and in a few weeks I'll post a
summary from both groups.
Thanks
