My VGA card has some non-standard text modes - 60x80, 60x100, and 75x100 to name but a few. I would like to use them under Minix and possibly under Esix, too. Is it possible via a suitable set of IN's get the whole VGA state (not including the actual graphic image or text part) and by OUT'ing them in some proper order achieve the same screen mode ? If yes, has anybody code to grab the VGA state ? If not, or if no one has code for it, or anyway, what is the best book about VGA register level programming ?
