I'm currently running X11R4 (using twm) on a 4MB monochrome Sun 3/50, with SunOS 3.4. Is my workstation too underpowered to run Motif? Thanks for any info. Andy Malis <malis@bbn.com> UUCP: {harvard, rutgers, uunet}!bbn!malis

We have a 4MB Sun 3/60 in house, and it runs Motif OK, but that is with the Motif libraries shared. You need to have SunOS 4.0+ to get shared libraries. Even better, SunOS4.1 gives (so they say) a significant speed improvement over 4.0.x, so I would suggest going straight to 4.1 and using shared libraries. We also have a 3/50 under SunOS3.[4?5] which runs Motif mainly across the network on top of X11.3. It seems to cope quite well. We will shortly be upgrading it to 4.1 and X11R4, so will find out soon enough whether it can cope. Hope this helps.
