[comp.windows.x.motif] Source licence et cetera

basti@orthogo.UUCP (Sebastian Wangnick) (07/17/90)

Moin OSF,

I'm working for a software company in western germany.
Among other things we're involved in airtraffic control software.
For administrative software we have already used OSF/Motif.
But now we need to implement interactive graphics, i.e.,
airroutes as manipulatable as all the other UI components.
At the time being it seems that we have no choice but to use InterViews.

This situation is quite uneconomic. It leads to the following questions:

 a) Are there any plannings to provide OSF/Motif with
    interactive, zoomable, hollow, graphical gadgets,
    our so-called gradgets?
 b) Is OSF interested in having such things implemented?
We have made some steps towards those gradgets, but did
not yet incorporate the full widget power.

As we plan to use C++ as base language, there are other questions:

 c) What is the current status of the C++ interface at the
University of Lowell? Is detailed information available?
 d) Are there any plans to redesign OSF/Motif to use the more
efficient inheritance mechanism of C++ instead of the
    X intrinsics?

And at last two general (but urgent) questions:

 e) What is UIML? Is it some sort of 4GL language?
Do you have any information about it?
Do you know someone who has?

 f) How do we get a source license? What are the terms?
How valuable could be motif-talk@osf.org for us?
We do already use motif-talk@alphalpha.com for q&a.
