There's a new book by Randi Rost on X, Xt and Motif:
X and Motif Quick Reference Guide
by Randi Rost
DP ISBN 1-55558-052-1
PH ISBN 0-13-972209-2
I just got a copy from DECdirect (1-800-344-4825). The part number
when you call is EY-E/58E 0P (or something like that, it's hard to
read the invoice). And the cost is $24.95 plus shipping. I think
it's also about to appear at your local bookstore. I was surprised
to get it so fast, as the projected ship date was 8/14/90.
It's split into 5 sections:
X Protocol - ~30 pages
Xlib - ~120 pages
Xt - ~80 pages
Motif - ~90 pages
General - ~40 pages
for a total of 369 pages.
It's exactly what is says - a reference book. It's not a 'guide' nor
an 'introductory' book in that there's no long-winded explanation of
how to program in X or Motif. But it does provide a good listing of
the important functions, data structures, widgets, etc. with brief
explanations. It's the type of book you'd use when you know what you're
looking for but don't know the exact resource or function name.
Having just gotten it, I can't vouch for it's accuracy or completeness,
but it looks good from a brief flip-through.
It's based on X11R4 and Motif 1.1.
BTW, I'm not affiliated with Randi Rost, DEC or OSF in anyway. I'm just
another programmer trying to make some useful applications will all of this.
