This is reaching new levels of absurdity. We are now receiving no less than *FOUR* copies of every article posted to this news group. It seems to go like this: 1. An original article is posted 2. A duplicate of the original is posted by "root@apollo.HP.COM" 3. A duplicate of the original is posted by "uucpnews@texhrc.UUCP" 4. A duplicate of the duplicate from apollo.HP.COM is posted by "uucpnews@texhrc.UUCP" Of course, I have tried mailing to root, postmaster, and various other likely names on both of these machines, with no results. If no one on either of these machines is reading this group, perhaps someone who is a reasonably close neighbor is, and could contact them about this? I have also received mail from Kee Hinckley explaining that he is doing everything he can to keep duplicates out of the mailing list. I think, though, that this problem is specifically with the news group, not with the mailing list. In fact, it seems to me that if the news group and mailing list have a bi-directional gateway, which I believe is the case, then it might be the news group which is causing the problem with dups on the mailing list. I realize that subscribing to the mailing list instead of the news group might eliminate most or all of the duplicates. However, we pay a fixed fee for the news, but we pay by the kilobyte for mail. At least with the news group the duplicates only cost me because of the incremental modem time they require. Also, it is not at all clear how long Kee Hinckley will have both the time and the patience to manually filter each and every posting to the mailing list to eliminate duplicates. jw
